An Easter with no baskets

Our sad little Easter "baskets"

If you know me , you know that I have a tendency to go a tad bit over the top at holidays. When is a more fitting time to do so? The holidays call for abundance in all things...food, family and fanciness. This Easter holiday we had plenty of food and family...fanciness...not so much. The kids Easter baskets are buried deep within a storage pod (with most of our other belongings) awaiting our new home. So this year I was going to break down and buy the kids those pre-filled, pretty hideous baskets that they actually beg for every year. I waited much too long....
Saturday night Will and I (and the rest of the frantic parents in our hood) found ourselves at the local super store trying to scrounge up enough goodness to fill our children's baskets. For starters...NO baskets, NO easter grass and to add insult to injury, NO cadbury mini eggs (a tragedy beyond all others). Plenty of PEEPS left on those barren shelves though, plenty...
So this year the Easter bunny brought Easter "bags" filled with sheer randomness....
And my kids couldn't have been happier....
The moral of this story (that apparently I need to be reminded of often) is that kids don't care about the darling easter basket, filled with strategically placed cuteness and adornments. Give them the candy in a birthday bag and life is good.

p.s. the pictures aren't as cute though :)
